Space Saver tyres have been around for a long time now

They first came onto the market in the mid 70s.
Australian car manufacturer, Holden, first introduced the space saver tyre in 2005. As stated by them, Removing the 20-30kg full-size spare from the equation allowed the Commodore to be tested at a lighter nominated weight in official Australian Design Rule (ADR) fuel economy testing.
I will be travelling over 4500km across Australia in several months' time. No way will a space saver tyre provide any peace of mind. Rated at 80km an hour, on a national highway, not something I will be entertaining.
Requested a quote from Mitsubishi for new rim and tyre.
This is something that also gets on my nelly. The company knows the price of what they have, why the need for a quote. Just tell me the price of the item, fitted.
I will most likely buy a secondhand rim from a car wreakers place and add a new full-size tyre.
I predict the cost of a new fitted rim and tyre will be at least $750

Received the quote from Mitsubishi Spare Parts dealer,

$1580. for one rim and tyre. Fitting and wheel alignment extra.

It may be more cost effective to go with 4 donuts like I first suggested! 🤣

@swirlie I bought a secondhand one for $330 from the wrecker.

Second hand?

So, the wrecker was the first owner and now you're the second owner, right?!

@swirlie The wrecker is where cars that have been involved in accidents go.
The wrecker buys those cars and sells them for parts to customers who are looking for cheaper than new parts.
The wheel I bought appears to be undamaged and is a Mitsubishi Branded Rim with the same tyre as is on my vehicle.

Okay then, we're back to where we started with all this from your first post!

What you purchased was a wheel and tyre that came off a vehicle that was involved in a collision of which you know nothing of it's past history, a collision severe enough that got the wrecked vehicle dumped at the auto wreckers in the first place and now resting peacefully in the mud and the rain awaiting some parts scavenger smoking cigars to come and pick at it's bones.

I'd put my money on a brand new, never used, 'donut spare' any day.

Happy motoring!
