Manual transmission?

Considering getting a manual for my next vehicle. Seems kind of fun and sporty. Something different for a change. I’ve never had one for my daily driver but I do know the basics (less confident about parallel parking on a hill). Any opinions or advice? Looking at an Acura Integra.

My first car was and it was a dream.

It also had a 3litre turbo engine and purred with the same grit as if it smoked 40 a day 🫠

Manual transmissions are decent but remember even though they are more performance orientated the gas mileage is different also. And get one that you are comfortable with because each clutch behaves differently

I love my manual transmission but it’s a 2016. A Mazda 3. Even has a “roll back” preventer. My prior one didn’t and had to use the parking break during heavy roll backs. Scary.

For daily driving, I like vehicles that blend them together. Automatic by default with a manual mode. Therefore, daily driving in traffic isn't a chore and you get to use the manual mode when you feel like it

Paddle shifters are a huge plus, not having to mess around with a stupid clutch or learn a gearing pattern

I drive a manual as a daily commuter.
It is fine for most driving, excellent for winter driving (downshifting works great to slow for stops when the roads are snowy)

Where they suck is heavy stop and go traffic. You can get a leg cramp trying to work a clutch when traffic is creeping along

@Arnoldjrmmer Yeah, my knee will feel it after a week of stop-n-go
It'll cost more and they can be a pita for in town. Unless it's a 'for fun' car and you're very nostalgic about a manual, id steer away from them.

On the up side, it makes your car far less likely to be stolen, esp. for joyride kids

@stound Manual transmissions are cheaper to maintain and less likely to fail than an automatic transmission, and probably cheaper to repair and replace as well.

And if you pay attention better mileage.

I learned on a pickup with a three speed on the column. I only had manual transmission vehicles until 10 years ago.

It's been many years since I had a car with manual transmission in it. Always loved to drive that car.

I have a mustang with a stick and enjoy it, but it sucks in stop and go traffic.

Takes a bit of practice, but, once you get the hang of it, eve. Hills are no big deal
Manuals are a complication especially on a hill stop light imo
Go for it.

Just a matter of days to get used to it.

I seriously contemplated the same.

I miss it.

My first 2 Honda’s were manuals.

They are fun until you’re in traffic with one.. I had a 300ZX that was a stick years ago. It was fun but again, until you’re in traffic
Had a stick for years and loved it. My oldest son's car now is a stick and he enjoys it.
I perfer driving a stick shift, because automatic transmissions are boring.

Why anyone would want to do aerobics while driving is beyond me.

I don't want to work that much to be my every day driver.
I mean good luck finding one. They are going extinct.
