Absolutely. My first stick shift car was a Volkswagon Diesel Rabbit, and I've owned others.
Back in the day, the same car with a 5-speed stick got better mileage than with a 3 speed automatic. Nowadays, modern 6 & 8 speed automatics do as well as stick shifts, and there's less chance for the driver to ruin the clutch, so there's fewer reasons to buy a stick shift car.

@ElwoodBlues there's plenty of reasons. Such as they are much cheaper upfront and last longer than automatics and are vastly cheaper to rebuild and repair.
I wish standard was more available. Especially in trucks.
