I live in the USA
I am on the east coast---use the trains from time to time . when i lived in the south and on the west coast no, because they didn't really exist in any meaninful way.
i had 2 weeks 3 decades ago where I had to take a bus to work because my car broke down and my commute for a job that was 15 miles away was 2.5 hours each way.
It is almost as if Americans are punished for not purchasing a car, auto insurance drivers license. The dept of transportatoin plus the dept of public saftey (at the state level) work hard to maintain that status quo even at the expense of the econonmy (it is at the expense of the economy but that is another question / response)
