Are car lights too bright?

It annoys me every day when I am driving in the dark, that so many cars have far too bright lights. They almost blind me. What about you?

Yeah, it's annoying. It's a combination of people not being sensitive to others and a growing number of people having poor eyesight in the dark due to improper nutrition.

@MarkPaul isn't it because car manufacturers make the lights too bright?
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@Tamara68 Well, LED's are brighter (and last longer) than back-in-day bulbs. But, that is useful when on back roads with no other cars. Most new cars have auto-control where the camera knows when other cars are present and automatically cut off until the road is clear of cars again. Older cars that don't have that auto-feature do require drivers to either show consideration manually or not use them at all.

I blame inconsiderate drivers, not the fact that LEDs are brighter and last longer.

@MarkPaul inconsiderate drivers is a problem, but most of the time it's just the lights being too bright. Not all led lights are equally bright. Some are excessive.

@Tamara68 Well, according to driving etiquette and proper behaviour , if you are an oncoming car you shouldn't ever see it because the offending driver should cut them in oncoming traffic. The same if you are following someone.

If you are the only one on the road, the extra illumination is worth it to be able to see unlighted turn-offs, critters, or insane bicyclists who wear dark clothing at night with no reflective gear and expect to be treated like royalty.

It's not that complicated @MarkPaul the lights are too bright.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@JohnnySpot They are not too bright... they are just left on when they should be cut. It's as simple as that.
JohnnySpot · 56-60, M
@MarkPaul The main problem is not people leaving their high beams on, it's that the regular lights are too bright.
People hardly ever use their high beams around here.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@JohnnySpot Perhaps you need to get your eyes checked then. The regular lights, although brighter because of LED technology, seem okay. Your request is denied. NEXT>>>

@MarkPaul This problem didn't exist when lights weren't as good.
The simple answer is to use the appropriately manufactured bulb.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@JohnnySpot The idea that thousands of people are using the wrong bulb seems a bit outlandish.
JohnnySpot · 56-60, M
@MarkPaul it has become more prevalent not all cars are guilty of having to bright of lights.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@JohnnySpot No doubt the ones you find "acceptable" are older cars or ones not using LED's. Perhaps you should just stick to driving during the daylight hours.

@JohnnySpot I'm just trying to help with practical solutions for real-world use.

@MarkPaul Sometimes words can come out harsher than they were intended.
I've supplied a reasonable solution to be considered, you haven't.

@MarkPaul Plus you've smarted off to me and use juvenile phrases.
JohnnySpot · 56-60, M
@MarkPaul So wise up or we're taking you off the payroll.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@JohnnySpot Yeah, but I'm not trendy.
