Wow, yes I'm going to trust anything from an extreme-right, climate change denying source whose factual reporting is at best questionable. The myriad Branco cartoons simply reinforce my point.
I have an EV. It costs me approximately 1/3 of what my old diesel car cost to run.

@SW-User what are the costs of your license plates and the cost of a replacement battery. How is your old battery disposed of?
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
@SW-User How much to replace the battery?

SW-User
@MrBrownstone @nudistsueaz My license plates were standard and came with the car, and my battery will cost about £2000 to replace, although it is guaranteed for 8 years.
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
@SW-User And how much to charge your car?

SW-User
@MrBrownstone The cost is added to my electricity bill, and my bill has gone up by about £40 a month, so it costs about £500 a year to charge my car (once a week on average). Before that, I was spending £60 a week on diesel
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
@SW-User Add cost of battery and it’s about the same

SW-User
@MrBrownstone Sure. An extra £250 a year for battery. Which more than pays for itself with no road tax. And it's still miles cheaper.
But whatever makes you happy.

@SW-User it's not that way in Arizona, not even close

SW-User
@nudistsueaz Sucks then, doesn't it? I'm just fine :)
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
@SW-User electric don't work here. Except for golf carts.

SW-User
@nudistsueaz It should do. Arizona should be leading the world for renewavle energy.

@SW-User just in solar, not electric cars.

@SandWitch It's round about $10,000 actually (which is still a hell of a lot). But most people have traded in their cars after 8 years, especially Tesla owners who mostly lease them.
And you don't HAVE to change your battery after 8 years. It will still run at at least 70% efficiency. And that's now. Give it a couple of years and costs will plummet further and range will increase.
Whereas petrol and diesel cars will be priced out.

@SandWitch That's not true. Tesla batteries, if treated well, will still hold approximately 70% charge after 8 years. And there is no evidence to say it is $23000 outside of right-wing fake news YouTube channels.
Also, what you forget is that the VAST majority of Tesla owners actually LEASE their car, and can simply swap to a brand new car with a full battery whenever they want. VERY few Tesla owners are going to have to shell out for a new battery anyway.
Sorry, but EVs are the future. :)
