Do you use car rentals services?

I have had to hire one today because mine broke down yesterday.
A day before I am going on a 11 day holiday.
What a dog's breakfast it is navigating these sites.
Trying to find a deal that is acceptable takes quite a while. Not willing to give these people any amount they ask for.
Choosing Ace Car Rentals, at $31.50 a day, together with ad-ons, the total is $394.50.
Ad ons included - Registration Recovery Fees: $3/day = $33, admin fees - $15.

Onerous identification documents required.
100 point ID check - Drivers License + Utility bill no more than 3 months old.
2 proof of address documents.
$700 security bond

I came across a site that stipulated in the term and conditions - any damage to windscreen will incur a $5000 charge. Vehicle not returned with same amount of fuel - a charge of $25 + fuel at $3.50/litre.

Here it's not quite as bad. Yet definitely has gone up like everything else.

Might have to use a rental U-Haul, yet they often go by your credit rating on insurance I suspect. I believe a cargo van starts at $29.95 US with a dollar a mile charge. ANYTHING extra of course they charge. Yet I won't need anything extra for moving tools.

Regular cars of course are more and haven't had your problem in over a decade.

Note there are certain clubs here like AAA that will help in lowering the cost. I had AAA membership and insurance back then.

I hear AARP is another.

Both are USA clubs. Yet there's likely something similar there.

Benefits often start at initial membership. Yet there's is a yearly limit.

AAA is well known for free towing here.

Also check with your auto insurance company. Some insurances do help with rentals.

I believe Farmers insurance is one of those here in the USA.

@whowasthatmaskedman I got a fair deal. $394 for 11 days hire. I am okay with that.
