Took my truck in for an oil change.

Got it back and there's no heat in the cab but the engine is overheating. They say I need a manafold gasket but if the manafold is the problem it can't be replaced. So pay a grand for the gasket but that might not be the problem. Last thursday the truck ran great. How would you feel or deal with this?

It sounds very fishy to me. Too coincidental to be plausible.

Years ago I had some issues with my car. Someone told me it could be the alternator, so I bought a used and working one and installed it. That didn't solve the problem, so I took it to a repair shop. They told me it was the alternator and tried to sell me a new one to replace the functional one I had just installed. When I informed them I had just put it in the day before, they said they would take another look at it. What do you know, it was a simple 35 cent part. I got it fixed for 35 cents plus labor and wrote them off forever.
@windinhishair I hear you. It's so hard to trust any mechanic. This shop says If it's the manafold it can't be replaced. Did he say that to cover the mechanic if he damages the manafold when he takes it off? They say We told you that ... after the fact. No you didn't you are gaslighting me.

@Pitchblue I have a great mechanic now in the small town I live in. I've used him for almost 30 years. He does his best to keep every rust bucket running as long as possible.

depending on what state you ae i some have things to deal with that
they cnaged your oil but lost all your radiator watere?
take these guys to court
i mean it,, total bullshit. by drain and not refilling your truck they pretty much destroyed the engine
@Dshhh So I get the new manafold gasket. 1300 dollars They say they inspected the vehicle and I need work on the brakes. I get the truck back and under heavy braking the brake light comes on. I go get some brake fluid and no more brake light. This all started with an oil change. That's a lot of coincidences.

Research for another mechanic that has good reviews, someone some business you know you can trust.. and don't get your oil changed at that place anymore.
@SW-User Problem is this was the place with good reviews. It's an old truck but it's in perfect condition no accidents, no rust. It could be just bad luck but you take it in for maintenance and it becomes a moneypit the same day? Strange

Head gasket? Maybe
Exhaust manifold gasket absolutely not.
Intake manifold gasket most likely not.
When was the last time you checked your coolant level?

Sounds like your coolant (antifreeze) is low.

I would definitely consider going somewhere else to get the oil changed.
