Are you sure a mechanic wouldn’t use a dented filter

doing an oil change? I hope that’s against the law or something. That would f up the engine!

A new filter is not supposed to be dented.

@ABCDEF7 I saw it came dented in a box on a Reddit post and everyone was telling the guy not to use the filter because it can leak oil and ruin a 5000 engine

@SW-User Yes, if it's damaged, it's similar to using no filter at all, which is not good for engine.

It depends on where the dent on the filter is, and how deep it is.
A small dent on the body of the filter or the bottom, shouldn't make any difference. But if the dent distorts the shape of the rim in any way, I wouldn't use it. That might cause it to leak.
