Do you tip your new mechanic?

Do you tip your new mechanic when
he's done service beyond expected
and he's knocked off most the labour
cause he was too sick for a week to be there?

I don't know whether to buy him beer
Or pay a percentage more...
New town and new acquaintances
and the good are the best for sure
