If you disagree with someone else's point of view, do you try to reason with them in order to change their perspective or leave it to that?

People express points of view that I disagree with all the time and I usually will ignore them. I'm not here to argue with people. But if someone challenges something I said, I normally will respond to them, not to try to change their mind (which rarely happens), but to explain my position further and to point out what I think is wrong with what they said.
