Why do they cotton swab the guy's arm with rubbing alcohol before a lethal injection?

bonjovi11 yes I suppose it is a bit odd I mean I cannot really be for infection purpose as it will not matter that much for the person receiving the injection unless the alcohol softens the skin I have really no idea

There's a period of time after they inject the tranquillizer but before they inject the poison; they can get a call from the governor and stop the execution at that point. They don't want to risk a lawsuit if an infection should occur.

Improves effectiveness of injection.
