Would you befriend a junkie?

Would you?
calicuz · 51-55, M Best Comment
Online, yes, but in real life, no, because the addiction would not allow a real friendship.

You must have had junkie friends in the past then.

@SvanThor: I've known a lot of people along the way, and maybe a handful were junkies. Having been sober myself for several years now, I know that the disease of addiction is what controls the junkie. So a real friend isn't always trying to borrow money, nor does one have to worry about their things being stolen from them if they leave their "friend" alone in a room. Those types of things are not possible with someone who is strung out, but I know it's the disease and not the person.

@SvanThor: BTW: Thanks for B/A. 👍🏽

No. I don't think I'm "too good for them" or some shit like that.
I have a bit of a chip on my shoulder when it comes to people with subtance abuse issues. (My dad is a recovering alcoholic.) That has nothing to with them and everything to do with me.
Besides that, their world isn't something I want to get mixed up in. Maybe that makes me selfish and cold. Maybe I just flat out don't "get it" and have a lack of understanding and am poorly informed on what junkies are really like.
Bottom line, no I would not befriend a junkie. I have enough of my own shit to deal with.

This is a respectable response.

I have friends and family who have issues with drug and/or alcohol and that shit is stressful. I would be on a friendly basis with them, but I dont think I would be making plans to hang out on a Friday night with that person.

No, I don't feel like having my computer stolen or relapsing.

I have and paid a heavy price for it. Live and learn.

Honestly, not if I knew beforehand. Not at this point.

Recovering junkies = cool
Active junkies = not cool

Do you regret being friends with me?

No, I don't.

No because I have enough people to take care of.
Syktur · 26-30, M
What if the person is clean now? What if they just *used* to be a junkie?
limefairy · 46-50, F
@SvanThor: In the circumstances I find myself at the moment no.
Syktur · 26-30, M
@limefairy: Interesting.

I think my third girlfriend was an alcoholic.
My blood just ran cold. You were there throughout that entire fucking fiasco. Do please tell me you don't actually have that in your possession.
SW-User
No, I don't even know who she is. Was she an EPeep?
Oh thank God. Sorry, you set off my paranoia for a moment. Yes, she was. The second one and the third one both were. I forget what the third one went by, though. She changed accounts and aliases whimsically.
