Apparently small meals and healthy snacks in-between is better. Which ends up to be like 8 meals a day.

Indeed, having spoken to a nutritionist on a handful of occasions this is indeed the case. 5 meals a day is good, in the pattern of breakfast-snack-lunch-snack-dinner with the largest meal being breakfast, but 7 meals is better with it book ended by snacks on either end. The slow but constant intake of calories helps get your metabolism rolling so it's not going in fits and starts leading to low energy portions of the day.
