Answering only your heading question, you may be right but not thanks to brands like Tesla although that is expensive. The EV trade is being taken over by China anyway (BYD, etc.)

There are still plenty of sales of costly, bloated cars like the new RangeRover and those glorified builders' pick-ups (Ford 'Ranger' etc.); but the costs of motoring generally are rising.
