How do you handle inconsistent friends?

Sometimes they message you with so much energy and care. Then other times, they’re silent for weeks on end and it feels like you’ve asked too much of them by texting.

Is this what casual friendships are like? I guess part of me just longs for something deeper. Actual emotional vulnerability and investment in each other’s lives

I’ve never had a consistent friend. Honestly I don’t even know how I’d handle that. So I’m pretty chill with all my inconsistent ones.

you go about your life , if they are not close there is not enough binding factor.

i usually avoid my friends i don't like to inconvenience them but maybe we are just not close

Nothing wrong with wanting something deeper. This just might not be the person who can give that to you. So accept them as is (or not) and look elsewhere to get your needs met. Not necessary to put all your eggs in one friend basket.

@OlderSometimesWiser Good wisdom :) You’re probably right. I guess that I just take their distance personally sometimes and worry that I’m “too much” for someone to be friends with me. I doubt that reflects reality, though. There’s a person for everybody
