Have you ever had a shopping experience where your appearance led to surprising customer service, good or bad?

Have you ever had a car dealership try to steer you away from the car you wanted? How did you deal with it and did it affect your decision?
My pre-teen nephew is always really quiet during family gatherings. I pointed this out to him and he asked "What am I supposed to talk about?" Is this a sign he is on the autism spectrum?
