Do individuals bear responsibility for protecting their own privacy online?

What should I do if my friend suggests meeting up, yet again? We both know he'll pull out last minute, he always does, even if it's just a simple harmless cup of coffee. Should I just ignore him until he changes topic? Lovely weather here today.
