Why do people prefer to live in areas with a high risk of wildfires, tornadoes, earthquakes, or hurricanes?

How would you feel if your spouse was sick or hurt and called her son at work instead of you (also at work) that there was something wrong and needed to go to the hospital? This has happened to me three times. Should I be upset?
