How can I choose the right books to keep me interested and not get bored early on?

My wife attacks me but I’ve created trust issues with drugs. How can I make the conversation better?
If today scientific truth can be bought with research funding, and historical truth can be ordered by those in power, where does 'Morality' stand for those of us who only consume information from textbooks and social media?
