Why do people with narcissistic tendencies feel the need to steal the spotlight during special occasions like birthdays or holidays?

Does this sentence sound natural to native English speakers: “If he sells his company for a good price by the end of the year, he can retire in Europe in 2027.”?
Why do we often perceive age based on physical appearance and limitations rather than how people actually feel inside? Is this a societal norm?
