What's the reason narcissists put on such a dramatic show when you try to leave them?

And what do you do when you have a lots of things to say that are left unsaid, what do you when you miss somebody so much that you crave for them day and night?
My mom says she doesn’t understand how a woman could fall for a man who is younger than her even though she is 5 years older than my dad. Is she a hypocrite?
