Why do we sometimes find pranks hilarious as kids but feel guilty about them as adults?

How do stereotypes surrounding straight students contribute to incidents of violence on campus, particularly in relation to the political rhetoric of Donald Trump?
Does the in-group/outgroup preferencing only refer to folks who are different in race, ethnicity, gender, or can it also apply to different ideas in philosophy and personality?
