This is why I’d rather live in the USA

This isn’t even Vancouver, Langley is a 45 min to hour drive east. 🤨

Kitchen of above rancher 😐

I get it. Really I do.. But the real estate pricing is a factor of the desirability of the place you live in. Our prices are not far from the Langley prices. But once you factor in the downsides of everything else you have to cover for yourself in America, it starts to make more sense. Demand drives price..😷
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
Similar prices here. My shabby shack could go for a mil but even if I sell and buy something else, it won’t be any better/bigger of a home. So I just sit on it .

But I’d take living in Canada any day over living anywhere else
dancingtongue · 80-89, M
@FreeorLonely Why? We did when the kids left and the multiple levels became too much for my wife's mobility problems. Bought something smaller for nearly a third of what we sold the other one for, and it is now worth one and a half times what we sold the original for.
FreeorLonely · 51-55, F
@dancingtongue those days are gone, just like I said, even small places are expensive up here (see post) hence why I need to fricken move. 🙄
dancingtongue · 80-89, M
@FreeorLonely Everything is relative. The days when I could buy my first home for $23,500 with no down payment are gone, along with the Veteran's no down payment "low" interest rate of 7.5% and my $500/mo salary as well. But we found a way to make the mortgage payments.

And I know the people who bought it from me for $800,000 couldn't keep up the payments and had to flip it. But it allowed me to downsize to my current one, which cost me $300,000 with none of the financial struggles of that first one. And it's market price currently is $1.5 million. Location, location, location still remains the bottom line in real estate.
yep. it's messed up here. rent for my 2 bedroom, one bath bungalow is $3400

@FreeorLonely yeah...back when i was in the "ditch" in my 2 bedroom apartment that i lived in for ages i was paying 1680. the new tenants that moved into the exact same layout below me were paying almost 2500. when i moved out they gutted it and did a total reno. i wonder what the new tenants have to pay now, and that was in downtown "ditch" here's my old place...
FreeorLonely · 51-55, F
@beermeplease not surprised, unfortunately.
dancingtongue · 80-89, M
Yeah, but you do realize you would be in Texas? Everything is perspective. Living in the Bay Area, I look at those Langley prices and say, Dang, that's affordable!
I can see the attraction. However, I would rather live in a sturdy, log cabin in the woods.

whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@PhoenixPhail At least a mile on all sides. and then a roof sprinkler system with copper pipes to deal with flying embers..😷
@whowasthatmaskedman That should do it. But even with all that, I'd still like a bunch of shade trees around the house. 🌳
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@PhoenixPhail Then built your log cabin underground..And the fire can just run over the top.😷

Looking hard for a drive-in, searching for a corner café
Where hamburgers sizzle on an open grill night and day
Yeah, and a juke-box jumping with records like in the U.S.A.
… Well, I'm so glad I'm livin' in the U.S.A.
Yes. I'm so glad I'm livin' in the U.S.A...............🫡

In some parts of NY-LA that wouldn't even be a shack..inflation is all over
HowtoDestroyAngels · 46-50, M
Welcome to America! We'd love to have somebody like you here!
BrandNewMan · 61-69, M
That $347k first home would be pushing $550k to maybe $600k here I'd guess .. Houston is a much lower cost market

Yikes on those Canadian listings .. Thats bordering on some California level craziness there
BrandNewMan · 61-69, M
@FreeorLonely Mine's hitting market in a couple months .. you could buy it and still have a nice chunk left toward retirement, a car and damn nice trip to Belize for some diving, umbrella drinks and <winkwink> mischief on the beach 🤷
FreeorLonely · 51-55, F
@BrandNewMan that’s kinda the plan. ☺
BrandNewMan · 61-69, M
@FreeorLonely I will need at least 2x the garage / pole barn /shop space and 1/2 to 2/3 the living SqFt for my next house
I was driving through Arizona a couple years ago and saw houses being advertised "From the low 100s"...For a house....
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
Unbelievable!
Tx is acceptable.

But continue looking in Missouriiiii
FreeorLonely · 51-55, F
@Degbeme hmmmm 🤔
@Degbeme yes 😏

After we sit on porch having sweet tea
Degbeme · 70-79, M
Lilymoon · F
U.s. is def cheaper but we have better health care and no guns.
Not to mention a mentally challenged president.
I'd think twice! 🤗
FreeorLonely · 51-55, F
@Lilymoon I would agree but honestly our healthcare is beyond broken, we have lots of gun violence too, there are several shootings a day out here.
He won’t be president forever…
MellyMel22 · F
Thinking maybe I need to move to Texas 👀
Ambroseguy80 · 56-60, M
@MellyMel22 as long as all your exes don’t live there. 🫢
TexChik · F
It depends on where you go in America. California suffers from the same socialist disease and real-estate price points.
TexChik · F
@FreeorLonely Not bad. Planning on becoming a Texan?
FreeorLonely · 51-55, F
@TexChik perhaps
TexChik · F
@FreeorLonely 🤠C'mon down!
Ambroseguy80 · 56-60, M
Wow. Those prices are insane.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Ambroseguy80 Right now they are. Real estate is being bought up internationally and by corporations as an investment to store wealth against inflation, just like gold...And its pricing people out of the market. Great for those of us who already own something. Not so great for our grandchildren..
SumKindaMunster · 56-60, M
This is why, even though the media pretends otherwise, MORE people are moving from Canada to the US.

Canada has fallen. It's been taken over by 3rd world migrants and Chinese real estate consortiums.
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
@SumKindaMunster you’re correct. And the refugees are living the high life here getting everything including cell phones for free
FreeorLonely · 51-55, F
@Jenny1234 pisses me off
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
@FreeorLonely me too
Have you visited Texas ? All of Texas ?
@FreeorLonely Which would not give you any idea of the neighbors and their possible attitudes towards "furriners".
FreeorLonely · 51-55, F
@bijouxbroussard you rarely get that no matter where you buy. I’m also looking at 5 other states.
FreeorLonely · 51-55, F
@bijouxbroussard praying for good neighbours that like Canadians
Degbeme · 70-79, M
Your home prices are as ridiculous as ours. No chance for the average Joe to own one.
FreeorLonely · 51-55, F
@Degbeme it’s disgusting
Musicman · 61-69, M
Florida has some nice low housing prices too. 🙂
FreeorLonely · 51-55, F
@Musicman I really did enjoy Florida. ☺
FreeorLonely · 51-55, F
@Musicman you shared these before, do you have more?
Musicman · 61-69, M
@FreeorLonely Yes I do.

Yeah shit…if only the rest of the world had houses.
