How did you manage to handle the embarrassment when everyone, including your teacher, was laughing at the situation?

My boyfriend said my dorm room was the worst place he’d ever stayed. It hurt and made me feel inferior because I’m less well-off than him. Am I overreacting by considering ending the relationship without explaining why?
