Homelessness is a multi layered issue. Some of it stems from lack of affordable housing which may be the result of low employment rates. Some of it is due to mental illness. Since governments have released former mental health patients are now on the street many of whom are incapable of looking after themselves in a 'normal' home. Others are there as a result of addictions and there are homeless by choice. Sounds weird but I know the police were looking for a homeless guy's daughter. The homeless guy had died in a shelter and left his daughter 1/2 a million dollars. He was not an addict or mentally unstable. He just preferred to be on the street.

@mysteryespresso Lots of people do it. I have heard more than one brag about how tough it makes them. My grandmother came up from Oklahoma in 1904. She was a young girl at the time and she remembers their first winter. It was 45 below and they were living in a tent miles from any other human beings.
