Why would people rather learn English than American when America is much more powerful?

Last night I bumped my scalp into the headboard of my bed, not too hard but enough to leave a mild sting. I just had a concussion 4 days ago. Is it another head injury or am I overreacting?
I have an ex that only asks me for money but says he still loves me. Should I lose all contact with him or keep the line of communication open?
