How do waitresses pull off that bright, bubbly demeanor so well?

Are you guys genuinely happy or just a world class actor?

When you’re in your 20s, people treat you like you’re committing a crime if you aren’t happy go lucky.

I feel fundamentally defunct as a woman because I’m not like that. And if I do try to force a smile, I look like I’m being held hostage

I can receive a compliment and yet still sometimes struggle to smile. I’m tired of causing people to feel awkward/unliked when they’re talking to me. So what’s the secret? Coke? Caffeine shot straight through the veins?

You're expected to fake it. I worked customer facing roles when I first left school and was often pulled up because I didn't have a stupid fake smile plastered on my face.

Yeah, I'm in agony and struggling to stand here... yet, all you care about is if I'm smiling or looking like I'm laughing as you rip me a new one on the shop floor???
