Do you think getting a cold sore from your partner is worth it?

A conversation I had with my long distance partner:

Me: “I don’t know how long it’ll take to knock out this cold sore. We probably won’t be able to share drinks or food, or kiss”

Him: “Awww, are you sure it won’t be gone by the time we see each other?”

Me: “I don’t know, even if take this medication, it still might not be completely gone. I don’t know if I want to take the chance”

Him: “I don’t mind, we don’t see each other very often anyway.”

Me: “What if you get a cold sore from me? Trust me, you don’t want one of those, they suck”

Him: *Not convinced*

For context, we see each other a 3-4 times a year since we live across the country from each other, so I understand some of his leniency.. but he’s also tripping, I think. Sweet, but very silly
NO its not worth it. I didnt used to have them till I dated this girl who LOVED to kiss all the time. One day I had a flu. Then I had my first cold sore and had to pretend I didnt have a sore on my face for 2 weeks. Now it comes back about once every two years at the most inconvenient times in my life. I was glad when covid happened because now I when I have a cold sore on my lips I can wear a covid mask to hide it at least. I would rather never have dated her than have this problem.

@orioninthenight As it is, though, I’m sorry. That really sucks, especially with how unsightly they get
@deciblues as I have gotten older I have learned how to take L Lysine pills the moment I sense an outbreak may happen on my lip and outbreaks have become less and less but still its a problem I wish I never had
@deciblues and of course thank my luck that covid happened and I can use those masks now if an outbreak happens

Never want to get that kind of virus. That's kinda yucky to think about.😐

@deciblues can you put your meeting off until a better time?
deciblues · 22-25, F
@Monday40 I wish, but it’s such a big trip to see him with our schedules conflicting that we’ll just have to accept the circumstances for what they are.

I won’t be kissing him no matter what, but we can still hug and hold hands, so it won’t be all bad

@deciblues good idea

I'm all for not passing it on.

You sound cute together
But yeah probably not worth passing it on
As hard as it will be to stop yourselves when you see you each other

I got a prescription from my dentist for Debacterol. It works really good, and after a while I've haven't had another one.

Nope. Hard pass. People can come and go and I wouldn't want to have blisters on my lip as a reminder

Never had one as far as i know so i have no experience to go on. I would try to avoid any sickness though.

Once you become infected, you can be stuck with recurrences forever.

You can get herpes that way
