Most of us ended up 'imprinting' on the music that is around when we are emotionally coming of age. That's why, as Paul Simon sang, "every generation throws a hero up the pop charts."

David Crosby claimed that MTV ruined rock music because instead of being about how groups sounded on FM, it became about how they looked on MTV. Irrelevant though, because later generations still bond with what's current; witness the Taylor Swift phenom.

It's definitely both for me. 90's music is probably 80% of the music I listen to always.
