Parents sue school district for not notifying them that their child was going by masculine pronouns at school

https://thehill.com/changing-america/respect/equality/4369721-parents-sue-michigan-school-district-over-pronouns/
_______________________________________________
So basically a biologically female student asked the school counselor to tell the teachers to use he/him pronouns and a masculine name. The counselor and the teachers complied.

The parents end up seeing a note that addresses their child with his preferred name and pronouns. Their reaction? “HOW DARE THE ADMINISTRATION NOT IMMEDIATELY NOTIFY US OF THIS PRONOUN CHANGE???”

All I have to say is, poor kid, not only did the parents file a lawsuit against the school district, but they pulled their child out of real school and switched him to homeschooling.

If you’re wondering why the school didn’t notify the parents, it’s because the school has a policy of not disclosing a student’s LGBT status to their parents if the student has not come out to them yet. Protecting the students’ privacy and their ability to come out to their parents when and how they see fit.

So the parents claimed in the lawsuit that by not notifying them about the pronoun change the school violated their 1st and 14th amendment rights, because they are Christians, and allowing one’s child to transition is against their religion.

This poor kid, the one place where he could truly be himself, amongst his peers, friends, teachers that cared and accepted him, all that gets stripped away by his vindictive parents. Now he has no escape from the chronic invalidation of who he is as a person.

These parents should be asking themselves not “why didn’t the school tell us?” but “why didn’t our child tell us?”

I'm on the parent's side. The school should have contacted the parents and see how they wanted to approach situation

@TheRascallyOne yeah...cause no LGBT kid has ever been abused or kicked it of the house for their gender or sexuality before under fundamentalist Christian families... right?
TheRascallyOne · 31-35, M
@basilfawlty89 Yeah because no kid has ever been confused about their shuality right?
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@TheRascallyOne and are you a qualified psychologist, counselor or social worker that you can say that they are "confused"? Didn't think so.

Most people know for example they're gay in their teens. Pretty much if you choke the chicken to the same gender predominantly, you're gay. But you'll just call that "confusion", because Jesus is magic.
TheRascallyOne · 31-35, M
@basilfawlty89 No, because there's plenty of cases of students who are bisexual. Or maybe have gender Desporia. But that doesn't mean that they are trans or whatever agenda you're trying to push
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@TheRascallyOne lol what agenda? And let's say they're bisexual. Bisexuality is on a spectrum, they might still prefer the same sex. Even if not, they should have the right to express themselves. You want to stifle that and side with abusive parents who are probably going to send the kid to conversion therapy which is abuse.

@TheRascallyOne
I didn't see anything in this article that said the parents were abusive.

His point was that the school shouldn't take that risk. Schools have a duty to show some degree of moral caution and err on the side of caution in ambiguous cases. The fact that the parents flipped shit and pulled their kids out of school kinda suggests that they were right to do that; no normal, non-transphobic parent would go to that ridiculous extreme.

Children are people, not property.
TheRascallyOne · 31-35, M
@BlueVeins And the parents have the freedom to put their kids in whatever school they want
BlueVeins · 22-25
@TheRascallyOne They do have the legal power to put their kids in another school, and they're using that power to make their kid's life shittier. The parents took their son out of public school because the school was treating their boy with decency and respect; they're putting the culture war above the well-being of their own flesh and blood.
TheRascallyOne · 31-35, M
@BlueVeins calm down im sure there are plenty of other little boys for that school to groom
Zeuro · 26-30, F
@TheRascallyOne There’s a reason this kid didn’t want his parents to know about his transition, should be pretty obvious. And it was confirmed when they literally punished him by pulling him out of real school and sticking him in home school. All the kid did was try to be himself, and because of that the parents take away the one place he had to exercise being comfortable in his own skin. Not to mention not being about to see his friends all day. And his teachers who support him for who he is.

I mean you can’t seriously be with the parents after all that…
BlueVeins · 22-25
@TheRascallyOne Nothing about this article gives even the slightest hint of grooming; you're just making shit up at this point. Using accusations of pedophilia as like, a cheap culture war talking point benefits nobody except for actual pedophiles.
Zeuro · 26-30, F
@TheRascallyOne the very fact that they pulled him out of school and put him in homeschool to punish him for his gender identity indicates abuse.

Not letting your child identify with the gender they know they are, in many circumstances that can be abuse.
TheRascallyOne · 31-35, M
@BlueVeins You know, I've never heard Joe Biden. Denounce pedophilia or anybody on the left for that matter. 🤔
BlueVeins · 22-25
@TheRascallyOne Joe Biden signed an executive order to better prosecute perpetrators of sexual violence in the military through independent channels, and another one to requires K-12 schools that receive federal funding to investigate claims of sexual misconduct. If you want someone who will stand behind the podium and virtue signal about being anti-rape, continue voting Republican. If you want someone who will actually take action to fight sexual violence, vote Biden. Your choice babe.
TheRascallyOne · 31-35, M
@BlueVeins didn't he take showers with his teenage daughter?
BlueVeins · 22-25
@TheRascallyOne Only according to Project Veritas. Unlike in the case of stories of Trump being a pedophile, the alleged victim hasn't weighed in.
TheRascallyOne · 31-35, M
@BlueVeins well he does sniff children often
BlueVeins · 22-25
@TheRascallyOne The video you're most likely referring to had audio of someone sniffing spliced in.

@BlueVeins that's not the one im thing about but apnews has pushed fake news before. But I've seen him sniff so many poor frightened children over his Presidency
BlueVeins · 22-25
@TheRascallyOne The Associated Press is the most credible news site on the planet, alongside Reuters. I know what you're talking about with him acting kinda creepy and whatnot; I just think his actual policy is much more significant than like, semi-sussy body language.
TheRascallyOne · 31-35, M
@BlueVeins oh like bankrupting this country 🙄
BlueVeins · 22-25
@TheRascallyOne The IRA is projected to reduce the federal debt by $1.9 trillion over the course of the next 20 years. Biden is the most fiscally responsible President of our lifetime.
TheRascallyOne · 31-35, M
@BlueVeins lol 😆 Hey let me show you the snake oil too
BlueVeins · 22-25
@TheRascallyOne That's from the CBO babe, those fuckers are famous for being non-partisan sticklers to data and evidence. If you're willing to write them off as snake oil salesmen, your beliefs are just completely unhooked from reality.
