What makes us believe others even though they may let us down?

Is it a case of being a die hard, or is it that we want to believe whatever whoever is telling us?...perhaps it's stupidity? lol do tell.

Well I assume it's because they do something to earn our trust. Plus if we never trusted each other our society wouldn't really work so we trust each other to some degree

You are correct. However, sometimes we continue to keep trusting despite the letdowns. Thus, is it because we are stupid, forgiving, or what?

@OWise1: I know the answer to that from personal experience. Simply put its miserable living a life where you don't trust anyone

@mic11225: True but sometimes it sure does take a while to finally say, "enough believing that others will follow through as they say they will."

@OWise1: yeah some people are driven to that point. Chances are they aren't happy about it though. The key to trusting people imo is realizing its a risk and weighing the consequences for yourself and the other also looking at how trustworthy they've been in the past. Yes people can fake being trustworthy and betray you but it's the best you can do.

@mic11225: So true...I think those who are trusting are also very sensitive and intuitive and those who can't be trusted to do as they say are somewhat insensitive to others. Interesting how that works.

@OWise1: being betrayed or let down would make you less sensitive to other people though because you don't know if theyll hurt you too.

@mic11225: I think you react more as a result of people letting you down not less however, I can also see where one would become numb and put up an invisible shield as you may see the writing on the wall of being hurt. It's like both situations can occur.
