@Zeusdelight I'm a doctor, I have a PhD. It's still embarrassing and weird to ask to be called "doc" though.

@GlitterEater It is a strange world isn't it? Here you have worked and studied and developed a recognised expertise in a field and yet feel embarrassed to ask to be called "Doc."
Your formal entitlement is to be called Doctor, which depending on your work situation could be considered too formal, but your preference is to be called the more informal more collegiate Doc.
My father was a medical Doctor, however, the only person who use to call him Doc was his brother, seemingly as a nickname. I never heard him address his real name:)
Was it a particularly good or comfortable class where "Doc" was used?
