Where's the evidence?

If, as many christians repeatedly claim, there are heaps of evidence that their god is real and that their religion is the only correct one, why can't they ever present any of it? All they ever do it tell others to look for it themselves.

It would be just as valid to say there are heaps of evidence that The Flying Spaghetti Monster is real. Anyone who doubts that should look for the evidence themselves and they'll find it's true.

As an aside a dean of Trinity college Cambridge Dr Michael Banner has claimed Jesus was transgender and the wound inflicted in his side by the Roman soldier's spear was actually a vagina!
And we pay these cranks a fortune to educate!

@Entwistle Just read that this morning. These people deserve the title 'fools', as in the text 'the fool says in his heart, there is no god'

LOL! So even "God" had to resort to childish insults. 🤣

@Sharon Great comment! What a debater we have here! - Glad to have given you a moment of hysterical laughter in your sad life
Sharon · F
@WalterF I have a very happy life. It's been like that ever since I broke free of christianity. :)
WalterF · 70-79, M
@Sharon So at the end of it all, you will just stop existing. Get out there and enjoy yourself! no holds barred! no accountability! NB all the satisfaction in the world will still not be enough. There will always be that emptiness. But never mind! the main thing is that you have proved that there is no god! That in itself is one great big achievement! puts you way above some of the greatest minds that ever existed!
Sharon · F
@WalterF
So at the end of it all, you will just stop existing.
That's right. There's no reason to believe otherwise.

Get out there and enjoy yourself! no holds barred!
I do enjoy myself and accept responsibility for my own actions. Unlike christians, I don't believe I can do as I please with no adverse consequences if I just say I believe in a mythical being.

But never mind! the main thing is that you have proved that there is no god!
I haven't proven there is no god but no one has ever been able to present any evidence that there is. You haven't proven there is no Flying Spaghetti Monster either. Does that mean you accept It is real?

@Sharon You don't have to prove something doesn't exist. You have to prove it does.
Sharon · F
@WalterF
Point three - irrelevant, no idea what you're talking about. Stupid allusion.
So what make your preferred mythical being any different from any other? I note you couldn't resist the childish insult so typical of evangelical christians.

Believe me, if that relationship had been mythical, false or unreal, I would have skipped out of it decades ago.
That's exactly why I and many other Atheists skipped out of it.
Sharon · F
@hunkalove I agree but christians like to reverse the burden of proof in the case of, and only in the case of, their god,
hunkalove · 70-79, M
@Sharon I have a feeling there are lots of gods. Even the Judeo/Christian/Muslim god says so. I like the Hindu and Ancient Egyptian ones best. But who knows? Maybe we find out when we die. Maybe not even then. What you believe or don't believe is just your brain talking to you. It's how you live your life that matters. As Jesus said, "As you sow, so shall you reap."
Sharon · F
@hunkalove I like the Hindu trimurti - creator, preserver and destroyer all in one. It displays a basic understanding of the law of conservation of matter/energy. A Hindu also told me that the universe came into existence with a sound like "OMMM". Maybe they understood the idea of the Big Bang first.

@Sharon So, Sharon, you and your mates are wise, whereas those who believe in God have been taken in by myth, falsehood, unreality. You are making a sweeping statement. Yet you have "proved", in a previous remark, that you have no understanding of what you have rejected.

A perilous place to be.

Oh well, nice to have been insulted by you! Enjoy the rest of your day.
Sharon · F
@WalterF
those who believe in God have been taken in by myth, falsehood, unreality.
As no one, not even you, has ever been able to present any evidence whatsoever that your god thing is anything other than a myth, it's quite reasonable to come to the conclusion that you've been taken in by it.

You forget that, like many Atheists, I used to be a christian. I became an Atheist after reading the bible so I know exactly what I've rejected. Maybe you ought to try it yourself.
WalterF · 70-79, M
@Sharon Your comments are short-sighted and empty.

It is obvious that anybody who claims to have knowledge of God is familiar with the Bible. FYI, I read it through once a year.

And, I repeat, the notion of "proof" of God is a fool's game. If God could be "proved", there would be no point in considering him as divine. He would be no better than any provable theorem. Men would be superior to such an inferior being

And if he could be proved, everybody would be in on it. I for one, would steer well clear of such a creature
Sharon · F
@WalterF Are childish insults really all you christians have to offer? In any discussion like this, they almost invariably have to resort to insults.

And, I repeat, the notion of "proof" of God is a fool's game.
So why do christians keep claiming there are heaps of evidence for their god?
WalterF · 70-79, M
@Sharon I cannot see where you see insults? And even "childish" ones?!! There are none. I don't insult people. I will use scathing language where necessary - but even that has not been used here.

Evidence is different from proof. Proof cannot be denied. Evidence must be considered, and may give rise to a "yes" verdict or a "no" verdict.

Evidence exists in many forms - outside of the philosophical arguments for God, which never get very far. It isn't the intellect that needs persuading - otherwise people of lesser intelligence would be at a disadvantage.

When I consider that any person has 60,000 miles of blood vessels inside him, I realise that he who believes this all evolved out of the primeval soup has far greater faith than I do.

Or the wonders of the human brain. Or a thing like hand.

How is it that a human has a conscience, unlike any other creature? Or intelligence to think and speak and create great work of art? All coincidence? Pity that apes et al were deprived of those abilities which evolution gave only to humans.
Entwistle · 56-60, M
@WalterF There is neither evidence nore proof of any god existing.
Hence you rely on faith.
Sharon · F
@WalterF
I cannot see where you see insults?
"the fool says in his heart, there is no god" (from the bible)
"Point three - irrelevant, no idea what you're talking about. Stupid allusion."
"Your comments are short-sighted and empty."

Yet you fail to even attept to justify those comments. There are plently of other examples in just about any thread where Atheists challenge christians' assertions.

Evidence exists in many forms
So what real, independently verifiable, evidence can you offer? There are supposed to be heaps of it according to christians so it shouldn't be difficult to present a few scraps of it.

When I consider that any person has 60,000 miles of blood vessels inside him,
So? That is not evidence of gods, much less your specific god. Can you explain why an intellegent designer made the recurrent laryngeal nerve take the route it does? How about all the other design flaws? Evolution explains it all very well.

How is it that a human has a conscience, unlike any other creature?
What evidence can you offer to support your claim that no other animal has a conscience?

Pity that apes et al were deprived of those abilities which evolution gave only to humans.
As humans are a species of ape, that claim is clearly erroneous. At least you recognize the fact that we evolved. That's a start.
Heavenlywarrior · 36-40, M
@Entwistle wtf … trippin
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@WalterF
those abilities which evolution gave only to humans

Really?

Let’s explore that statement, shall we?
WalterF · 70-79, M
@newjaninev2 Go ahead, explore it! - but do it alone. It's sleep time in my country. So I will extract myself from your patronising "we", as in "shall we", and leave you to explore all you want. Happy fabulating.
Heavenlywarrior · 36-40, M
@Entwistle even Athiests rely on Faith
Heavenlywarrior · 36-40, M
@Sharon the human being is the evidence God exists
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@WalterF No problem... I and my offer will still be here when you wake.
