How can trees make a town or city a better place to live?

When you walk or drive around your town or city, do you see many trees? Do you think there are enough, or would you like to see more? Are there trees where you live? Do you spend time among them? What is your opinion of New York City’s tree-planting program? Do you wish your city or town would spend money to plant more trees? Why or why not? How important do you think it is to have trees around? What are the best benefits they provide? Do you have a favorite tree in your yard, neighborhood or town? What do you love about that tree? Do you have any special memories with it?

You have a lot of questions about trees.
I like trees. We have lots of trees on our property.
They are beautiful, provide shade, food and shelter for animals - trees are cool.

They give birds a place to nest and the area is much better for it. They are a source of shade in the summer, can provide food. Some have large pecan trees on their property so most years they get a good harvest. A variety of trees can make a city or town much more beautiful.

@pedrohedgerow it’s very sad when that happens. The city I live in now hardly had trees back in the late 1800s. There were trees along the sandy river south of the city though. When the university was built the president had elm trees plants around the buildings. Insects started attacking the trees and they needed something to get those insects to keep the trees from dying. So they imported woodpeckers from the East Coast but they had no place to nest. They ended up finding fallen trees on the river and dragging them up to the city and giving them a place to nest. Now over 100 years later we have a lot of woodpeckers in the city and in the rural areas. Sometimes they try to attack the siding on the houses but when one did it to this area I walked outside and the woodpecker flew down to the tree, stared at me and flew off. They make a noise that sounds like a jackhammer when they start hammering away on top of the side of the houses.

@cherokeepatti Pattie,as you know I love my birds, especially ravens and crows, magpies are quick and greedy, but very brave. They have a deserved and earned place in this world...bit emotional here, but not against you sis,I know you share an understanding and appreciation for these clever species.

Trees are homes to many creatures.Any society is enriched by having nature to interact with.If only people could turn their phones off.
