If you were designing your own dream house, what is something unconventional you would do?
What would be your dream house? What cool things have you always wanted in it?
I would want it to be ocean themed with cool salt water fish tanks and a lazy river than went through my whole house. This would be my bedroom: Also I've always wanted a house with secret doors and a book case with a book that opens to a hidden room.
So, what cool things would be in your dream house? What do you want in your dream house? What is a must-have feature of your dream house? My Dream is to own my own house one day, but it feels like it will take a lifetime to achieve, how much should I have saved before I should even consider looking?
I just feel like even a 10-15% deposit is years away im only 23 but I've seen people my age buying and I feel like im doing something wrong? is there any good guides or saving material online i can read up on or anyone got any good insights, similar experiences or advice? What's your dream house like? If you had enough money to build your dream house, what's a strange room/feature you'd include? What would you have in your dream home/mansion?Found a super stunning beautiful and unique 1960’s mid century mod that is well maintained but will eventually need some work in a Dream Neighbourhood, but it’s more than double what we’re paying right now. We’d make the payments but have to sacrifice other things, wondering thoughts on anyone who has been through this as I feel like it’s my dream house so wondering if I’m being blinded? How would you design your dream house?
After reading about the guy who's parents designed a house with a slide, I'm reminded of my high school Architectural Drawing class.
I used to always design rooms with a sliding door hidden in a closet, or a bookcase doors. I once had a room that took a third of the second floor and could only be gotten to by sliding a book case or taking a staircase hidden in the back of the closet.
Mostly because I always dreamed there was a doorway hidden in my closet that lead to an old 1910s bedroom full of faded toys and old books. What does your dream house have in it? What does it look like? Prairie style mansion surrounded by oak trees and a high brick wall with the usual deterrent on the top course. Courtyards and dark wooded gardens on the property. Huge garage. Lots of bedrooms for a large family with lots of kids. Basement is a wood/metal workshop. Attic is for hobbies like trains/Lego. Walnut wood trim and floors. Plaster walls painted in soft tones. Stained glass. Huge central hall for guest events with my symbol inlaid on the floor. Multiple fireplaces.
I want a little bungalow by the sea. I hate big houses. I only want spaces I actually use. I do want a decent sized piece of land though. And a huge porch with a hammock overlooking the ocean. Preferably the house is on a cliff overlooking the sea and in the backyard there's a staircase down to a beach below. There's also at least acre of good soil for gardening.
6-8 rooms (2 masters) on 2 levels, 6+ bath, large living room, 1 office, 1 small home gym in 2 car garage with a work bench for building computers and room for a storage freezer (1 whole head of beef), basement for storage/cellar/humidor, kitchen with gas range, wok burner, large prep space, enough room for a few appliances, large refridgerator/freezer.
A multi level lodge style house. There would be a big kitchen because I like to cook. Built into the side of the house would be an Irish pub that would be a place to relax and entertain. The master bedroom would be very large and would double as a library and place to for me to listen to my records. It would have a warehouse style terrace window that I could just set a nice couch under and sit to watch the sky.
It’s not really the house I dream about as much as the property. The location and the amount of property. I dream of a piece of land in the middle of nowhere, the closest neighbor 50 miles away. Living off of the land mostly and being self sustained. Building a windmill for power or just not having any power and digging a well. Just being as far removed from society as possible.
A house that can have a complex for 100+ cars and have electric car charging stations and a shop to work on them all if needed. A indoor gun range, top quality stoves, carpert floor everywhere, a high end real theatre, indoor go carts, not to many rooms, walk in fridge and freezer and thats all I can think of while I am hella tired and about to sleep.
A small art deco home in a quiet community with great access and just enough that I need to get to, without either being backwoods cabin Alaska or a slummed out Rust Belt ghost town - but not Atlanta traffic and crime or New York prices and business.
I recently just escaped buyers remorse by a sliver. I had to options. One cost 770k and the other 630k. The 770k one was a dream property. I am happy it didn't work out. I bought my second option, the 630K one and it's perfect. I had several second thoughts before buying something that wasn't my first choice. I am glad I didn't go for it. The dream house would have stretched my finances more than they already are and after some time, dream houses become nightmare houses if you end up paying over the nose. The dream houses are generally expensive and it's easy to get carried away in the market. To those that are on the brink, I'd advise them not to be tempted. Because often the difference between dream house and second choice is greater than 100k. It's difficult to earn 100k. Even more difficult to save it. Don't forget the sacrifice it takes to make that money and you'll know that a dream home shouldn't end up with a life of stress. I would strongly urge you, strongly strongly urge you, don't fall into the trap. Realtors often lure you in and you are disarmed by the nomchalance to extra money (could be because of easy financing or because your heart is set) but do not fall in this. It's been four months since I made the decision and not a week goes by when I reflect that I am so happy to have not gone with the dream house because I found something better.
