When have you given, received or been witness to an unexpected act of kindness, large or small?
What do you think was the motivation behind the act? Have you ever heard of any other acts of generosity in the workplace, like an employer giving extra days off or a holiday bonus? How common do you think it is for this to happen?
Have you ever done something kind for another person that was especially satisfying? Has anyone ever done anything for you that was especially memorable? Tell us about one or both.
If you had more resources — whether time, money or anything else of value — what would you like to do to show someone that you care?
What small act of kindness could you do now, with the resources you have? What’s a small act of kindness you were once shown, that you’ll never forget? What's a random act of kindness you did but never bothered to tell anyone about it? What was that one act of kindness from a stranger, that you still remember to this day? What is the nicest "random act of kindness" that a stranger has ever done for you? Have you ever given/received a random act of kindness that actually made things worse?
A few years ago I ran out of gas on the freeway very close to a gas station. I was walking down the off ramp with a gas can when someone pulled up and offered me a ride. I refused since the gas station was so close but they insisted saying that it was dangerous to walk down the off ramp (which it was), so I got in and caught a ride to the gas station. When I got back to my car I couldn't find my keys; they had fallen out of my pocket in the car that had given me a ride. I had to walk back to the gas station and call a locksmith to come out and make me a new key. 3 hours, and $80 later I was on my way. I then had to replace all the other keys on my keyring which meant buying several new locks and getting severely chastised by my boss (nearly lost my job). Have you ever had an experience where a random act of kindness backfired? What random acts of kindness have you done quietly, without telling anyone (until now)? What is that one act of kindness which you will remember all your life?
