Which country would you go for a free travel?
It was an amazing trip! I took my mom as a thank you for, my life I guess, and she’s the one who chose Japan. But I’m so glad she did. Because it’s so far we made it a nice long trip and visited a few different cities. If I didn’t hate to fly so much I would definitely be coming back.
Japan. I’ve been there and I like it. I don’t think it’s a good country for a white person to move to permanently, but I’d love to live there for an extended period of time. It would also help me with my Japanese studies. I’ve actually considered entering the “year in Japan” language course, but I need to find a job that would be OK with me taking a year-long sabbatical leave first.
The US. I am hopelessly in love with America - from the splendor of New York, with its Central Park, skyscrapers, brownstones to the magnificence of the Grand Canyon and deserts, bayous in the south and the incredible vibrant history of almost every state. Chicago and the Great Lakes, New Orleans and its architecture and street life, the streets of Philadelphia and San Francisco...
You can present touristic value of any country as a series of graphs. Tourist attractiveness depends on: size, population and cultural diversity of the country, natural beauty and diversity, history, culture, level of civilization which affects countless aspects of everyday life inside the country. In my opinion, Japan and USA definitely come out on top. Japanese strong side is the great culture and civilization. Natural beauty is also good. Obvious weak side is the little size of the country and lack of diversity. Which countries do you have no interest in visiting? Excluding the dangerous countries such as Somalia, Congo, Pakistan, etc. Are there any relatively safe countries you don't want to ever visit? Why not? Which country would you never travel to and why? If you have been given a chance to travel for a month, what country would this be? If you could travel the world for a year, what route would you take and why? As the title suggests my GF and I are planning a year long trip around the world. We have a basic idea of where we wanna go, but want to hear others input/if they've done this before. We want to start in Mexico->Guatemala-> South America, but from there on out we are a bit overwhelmed. We were thinking of SE Asia after Latin America, and then do Europe last. Unfortunately don't have time/interest in Australia or Africa right now. Our combined budget is around 100k. Any advice would help. I know it's a big question, but just wanted to know what route people would take if they could, and what thoughts they have about ours. Thanks all! What's your "hidden gem" country?
Question
A place that people don't really consider? For me, it's Taiwan. It gets overshadowed when people think of travelling to Asia, by China, Japan, Korea, etc. Hell, many of my friends had confused it with Thailand when I told them I was going. And, a lot of people just think of it as "that small Chinese Island."
In reality, I think Taiwan is perhaps my favorite place in the world. The people, the food, the way of life... Amazing history, great museums. Incredibly safe and inviting. Absurdly Democratic and open minded... The inviting underdogs of Asia. It's a shame and a real pity more people don't know about it.
(Of course, many people know about it, but on average it's completely overlooked or misunderstood in the west). What's your secret hidden gem? What's one country you've always wanted to travel to and why?
