How are your summer plans working out for you?
What are your summer goals, and how do you plan on achieving them? What are your summer plans and goals this year?
I'm not expecting a full blown, do everything summer where I live, there will be no big festivals or concerts. But after last year's stressed out summer, this year I'm aiming for an DGAF old crone summer. Plans include:
Trying to grow watermelons & Canteloupes in my Canadian vegetable garden.
Sitting in said garden and talking to my plants.
Learning how to can can vegetables from my Mom.
Drinking sneaky canned Gin cocktails on the beach with my friends.
Finally finding a used SUP at a reasonable price, plus some sit atop kayaks for my kids so we can spend afternoons out on the water. Embracing large hats so I don't burn my neck like every other year. So I probably should’ve asked this at the beginning of summer, but thankfully it’s coming to an end. Though I was wondering if anyone else works out, outside or in their garage with access to no AC? I have a tower I usually workout on inside of our garage, however in the summer time temperatures reach up to 120 (F) and this usually lasts from the months of June till about September. Now I love working out and seeing the progress I’ve made, but working out in this heat does not seem safe. I always drink water, and occasionally will have tea, but it is always water. My lack of motivation comes from knowing I have to go out in the heat and workout, and it’s demoralizing because I feel extremely drained. Has anyone else experienced this? If so what ways did you use to go around this? I’ve taken to doing non pull-up and dip exercises inside the houses which have worked, but I don’t feel like I get that good burn. Maybe it’s psychological. But any advice will be great! Going to Japan for two weeks, will be mainly in Tokyo and Kyoto but also thinking about spending a few days in Nikko. Then will be spending another 2 weeks in the Maldives. Might go to Europe for a couple weekends but haven't totally decided on that yet.
Family is taking a trip, but it's one of those important trips and not fun vacations which kinda sucks ass. I also hate to bring textbooks and study a lot for upcoming tests.
Working full time job during the week. Working part time job during weekend. Taking 1 class with a deliverable every week. Sneaking in some dinner outings with friends, movie nights at home. I don't do much else. A gurls gotta do what gurls gotta do to graduate without debt.
Just some background info. I am a sophomore in high school and last spring and winter track seasons were filled with "almost" and "what if?" moments. I was hoping to run a sub 5 mile but fell short at about 5:07. In the 2 mile I was hoping to run sub 11 but ended up running 11:00.06 (it was at an official race with good timing gear so I know it is accurate but still god damn 0.06 seconds ARGG). And I was hoping to get under 18 for my 5k but ran a time of *drum roll please* 18:01.49. I was literally falling short of my goals of measly seconds or even milliseconds. Going into this upcoming cross country season I want to train harder than ever to achieve my goals; maybe even hit 17:30 I'm my 5k?
During my cross winter track and spring seasons, I was probably running about 30 - 40 miles per week but now I have built up to consistently running a little over 45 miles a week consisting of : 4 days of 9-10mile easy runs and 3 days of 3mile workouts, 2 of which on the track, 6x800, 12x400, 5x1000 etc, and the other day I would do either hills or a tempo run. I am following the good o'l 80:20 formula where 20% of my running (9miles) is done as workouts and the rest (36m) is done in long, easy runs. One thing to note is that though I don't schedule in rest days, I still do take them if I feel like I really need them. As my XC high school teammates have said, some of the runners that are faster than me don't even run that much but eh, I guess I wasn't blessed with the great track genes. I still really love track and am willing to put in the effort to make my time goals a reality. I very much belive in the moto "don't tell them your plans, show them your results". Over the summer I am planning on increasing my weekly mileage to 50, 55, and eventually peaking at around 60 miles per week.
I have just finished my first year of college and am now faced with four months of uninterrupted free time and would like to put them to good use. For some context I'm 19m and had a difficult first year in college when it came to making friends and meeting women. My biggest flaws atm are being slightly overweight, suffering greatly with my self image and esteem, and being apathetic to many parts of my life. I'm open to any suggestions that can better my physical, mental, financial, social, and romantic situation. Projects small and large are welcome.
My best advice is to go wait tables or some kind of sales job for the summer. It’s a great way to interact with all kinds of people and learn some old-fashioned chit-chat. I worked at a Dennys, which was the pits, but they’ll hire just about anybody with a pulse. I was painfully shy coming out of high school, and too introverted. I was a cook for a while too, and it was fun, fun guys, paid well, and a good sense of accomplishment. I also joined a volunteer fire house, another instant group of buddies, hard work, and accomplishing cool shit. Car fires, house fires, accidents, learn to drive a big red truck, water fights with giant water pistols. So much fun. I really developed a sense of humor too, if you can make people laugh, then it’s like they completely open up to you, and all the defenses and false persona’s come down. I would practice delivering the same one-liners or greetings or whatever until I got more skilled and confident with being the one to “break the ice” because that was part of the job. Like saying “Hey, it’s Almost Friday!” on a monday. Everybody hates mondays, but it cheers them up to think, oh, yeah, just 4 more days to friday!
