Why did you lose your job?

How did you lose your first job? Have you ever caused someone to lose their job?
I worked for a large company back in 2000 and helped get a co-worker fired. She didn't do her work and spent half the day shopping (either out of the office or online). At the time I felt justified, but these days I feel guilty about it. Anyone ever get someone fired? For good reasons? For revenge? By accident? If you have ever lost a job, how did you lose it? Why did you get fired? Why did you get fired? And did it work out for the best? How long were you without a job? To people with real Rusty jobs: How did you land it? What exactly do you do at your job? How proficient are you? What skills besides Rust? How long did it take?
Addon: If you guys are comfortable to, then, tell us about your salaries & work culture too. Any instances when you felt let down by Rust? When did you know it was time to get a new job?
I've been going through some difficult times at work and am considering moving on, but I want to hear your stories!

When the smaller company that I worked for was bought out by a larger one, things changed quite a bit. I got a new boss and she immediately eliminated some of the policies that I had become accustomed to using. One day, a single mom came to our office and was very upset about not having the entire payment plus a late fee. She had always been late and we had often times waived the late fee. It was Christmas time and I didn't feel she should be using whatever spare money she had to go towards late fees, but should be used for gifts for her kids. I told her to not worry about the late fee (which was no longer allowed with the new company). As she left, she had a tear of gratitude for being compassionate to her. A couple weeks later, I was called in and had a sheet of paper in front of me with the title across the top... "Audit". I was asked if I had deliberately waived the late fee without prior approval and I said yes and explained. My boss told me that she'd have to document that and it would not look very good on me. The next day, I had another meeting with my boss and the regional manager, where they had a list of things I had "allegedly" done wrong. I told them that I'd do my best to do better in the future. I was told that it would not be necessary and that I was fired. The irony was that I had helped a single mom out and I was suddenly a single mom without a job.

Useless workers needed to vacate the chair and so I left, when told.
