What's going wrong or has gone wrong with humanity?
What incident made you realize humanity is doomed? What is the truth humanity is not ready to hear? What is the largest problem we face as a human race? [Serious]
Consider problems we face as a species regardless of nationality. What is the highest priority? What can we do to fix it? What’s wrong with human beings? What is something you don't understand about humanity? At what point did humanity go wrong? What will ultimately end the human race? Devils advocate: Why are human beings obsessed with preserving species that are currently alive? What's wrong with Humanity? What are we just not getting in life? What are our biggest genetic failures, what things are we totally inept of implementing?
Want to know peoples thoughts on this. Species of animals have been dying out since the beginning of time and when I hear how much money is put into some species that should be extinct I sometimes think that money could be put to much better use. The WWF et.al put a lot of money into Panda preservation when Pandas are just so incompatible with life!
I know we as human beings are changing the planet but the facts are that if you aren't adapted to survive with human beings then you will die. Much like the dinosaurs couldn't cope with the global drop in temperatures after the meteor strike. I have very much enjoyed the discussions below (even the well deserved abuse) and have taken away a lot of good points. I know on the face of it it is a very simple question but I wanted to know why it is a simple question? Why should I care about the Black Grouse or the Panda? I think I have much better answers than what my friends have offered and there are some good debates going on below about mankinds duty to this planet. Of particular highlight for me is a post from "Nungu Nungu" who is on the front line of the "human population growth vs preservation battle" and still sees the need for wildlife preservation. Oh also the one that called me a sack of shit. I'm sure there are many great points that I have missed and I will use the upvote system to try catch a few of them. Possibly the most disturbing aspect of all (which I have seen below) is that we have this social conscious but we are not using it. You could almost understand our actions if we weren't intelligent. Hopefully that comment will improve my reputation in peoples eyes though it may already be too late. Why don't we all collectively end human life if we have to endure so much suffering and pain?
Hi! I'm reposting this because it got removed for having a non descriptive title. I'm a high schooler and there have been some questions on my mind since a very long time and I think a lot of very smart adults are here so please help me out with this. Do you think there is more suffering than happiness in life? I do think that human beings remember/recall their negative experiences and memories more often than their positive ones but that just makes me think that our mind is designed to makes us suffer more. I personally think there's no point to life when there's so much pain. We lose our materialistic asset, there's pain. A loved one dies, there is pain. Someone breaks our heart, there is pain. A loved one or we ourselves get diagnosed with an illness, we just have to accept it and deal with that pain. Life is just so unfair. We live, we suffer and we die. Then, why don't we all collectively decide to stop reproduction and let humanity die? What is the point of our life when all of us are a lot of times miserable? If we all say life is hard, unfair then why do we want to put our future generation through the same experience? Why don't we end it humanity as a whole? By not reproducing... There will be no people and there will be no form of suffering. What’s some scary truth that humanity has to accept? What, in your opinion, is the greatest thing humanity has ever accomplished? Do any of you tend to observe humanity as if you were not human?
Since I can remember, I've looked at my fellow humans with a kind of detachment and curiosity, as if they were another species and I am a zoologist. I don't have any illusions about not being human, but I can't help viewing humanity as somehow alien to me, and constantly find that my species seems to make no sense at all in most of its words, actions, beliefs, and behaviors. It feels like I'm not one, although I know logically that I am. Anyone else in the same situation? I should address a couple of repeated misconceptions about this post. I'm not sociopathic, emo or "special". I have empathy, I care for others, and I'm not depressed or trying to be somehow superior to others. I don't think that nobody understand me or any of that kind of crap. I just find a lot of how humanity behaves to be odd, and I am intensely interested in the how and why of it. I'm not socially inept. I have a sense of humor and yes, I get laid. I just feel an odd sort of detachment a lot of the time, but it's not any kind of numbness to the human condition. Hope that helps clarify. What are some bitter truths about human nature? What makes you hate humanity? What is the single biggest problem with the human race today? How do you believe humanity will end? What do you believe is the greatest threat to humanity? Currently, what is the greatest threat to humanity hanging over our heads? What is the fundamental flaw of humanity?
If the answer to this question is "human error" (which I somewhat believe it is), then I ask why is that it? My belief is that humanity's universal error is only part of the problem. The means by which we handle that error is the real problem. I suppose you could spin it and say the method by which we handle our shared flaws is part of that umbrella of "human error", but I digress. What I mean by all of this is that I believe government and religion are merely codes designed to control and contain our human error. They are institutions designed to create civilized societies by, simply put, thinking for us in a way. For the majority of humans, they provide moral codes and a way of living. Many ask what's wrong with this. I guess my main problem with it is that it doesn't change people, only instructs the "right way" to behave. In other words, it's just a mask for our human error, and one that doesn't work completely. People are still very selfish, afraid, gullible, hateful, and more. Just take a huge step back and look at us: there are trillions of stars out there and possibly an infinite universe above us and an ocean filled with creatures and wonders below us. We barely understand either of these. We sit on the 25% of this Earth that is actually inhabitable and mainly argue and conflict in our politics, wars, every day issues, and much, much more. I believe this is because of all the differences on which we focus way too much (race, nationalities, religion, etc). My point is that if we focused on fixing all our universal, internal issues to get rid of the our developed dependence on provided moral codes we simply wouldn't need government or religion. A true anarchistic society, which yes I understand is impossible to attain right now, would mean humanity was strong enough, smart enough, and self sufficient enough to work together without being controlled to develop itself and expand its potential exponentially. Right now, however, government and religion inevitably are banes to humanity in the long run. With the increase of technology and methods of, simply put, killing each other, humanity is becoming so dangerous to itself and this planet. We have the potential to create and destroy so much, but are too corruptible and weak minded as a whole. Everything is developing and evolving except us and that, my friends, is what I believe to be the fundamental flaw of humanity. If you agree or disagree please let me know. Sorry for writing so much but it's kinda a broad subject.
