Government excise on fuel is too much.

For every litre of petrol sold in Australia, the Government's take is 43 cents.
This works out to about $12.5 billion a year.
Surely they can lower the excise to half that amount for 6 months?
With high fuel prices, many people can not afford to drive long distances - over 200 km return - which means those oft visited places outside of the city get reduced traffic, reduced expenditure. So already struggling businesses are further hit in the hip pocket.

Yep. I was watching the news a few days ago where a business owner was asked how he would cope with higher gas prices and he said he would break even because he planned to raise his prices to compensate. That is not fair to me making every day people pay for the increase.
So do everyday people but they have no power.🤔 @Gusman

@Spoiledbrat Yes, the only way everyday people can survive in these instances is to cut out unnecessary items, ie - travel - cigarettes, subscription TV.
Which all leads to a decrease in living standards.
Small businesses can be fair and absorb some of cost. We all have to make a living. They aren't the only ones. If it wasn't for consumers they wouldn't even have a business. They could show their appreciation a little. @Gusman
