Why don't they just put all the sanctions on Putin at once? Are they trying to see how far they can push him? Or just doing this for the suspense?

It’s a balancing act; we have to realise that these sanctions will also destabilise major economies in Europe, so there’s some safeguarding that has to happen first. Also, we have to consider Putin’s response - if we overplay our hand, Putin might just cut off natural gas shipments to Europe. That would cripple some countries like Germany and Italy, hence their hesitancy around Swift.

Make no mistake though, the sanctions currently in place are unprecedented, sever and essentially freeze-out Russia from established links to the global economy.

@LeopoldBloom Looks like they’re going back to lining up outside GUM for the chance to buy potatoes and beetroots

Still, at least putin is making progress in his aim of restoring the wonders and glories of the Soviet Union. 😂

@newjaninev2 I will readapt this joke.

Because of the war, there was a serious vodka shortage in Russia. A long line to buy it didn't move an inch for hours. Finally, one man lost patience and yelled "I can't take this anymore! I'm going to the Kremlin to kill Putin!"

He left, but soon, he was back, looking dejected. "Well," said the other people in line, "did you kill him?"

"Are you kidding?" said the man. "The line for that was longer than this one!"

{thearbitrator] what ever way you look at this putin is the aggressor and wrong on his invasion . i sort of understand what you mean but how do you think putin would react if the countries used sanctions all at once in a blitz. this way works better as it is biting they way it is being done the russian economy a sort of drip drip effeect .he is feeling the pinch as well as personal friends and interests of putin . granted it has not altered mad vlad stance but more sanctions and hit hits the russian economy and brings hardship to the russian public maybe just maybe the russian people may oust the nasty little goblin

Implementing them all at once might well push old Vlad the Impaler over the edge to where he would feel sufficiently trapped that he might well go full radical and launch nukes against the West...
