What makes us attracted to each other ?

Love, lust, whatever people might call it .
Of all people you connect with. all the sudden , there is that one that takes your breath away .
You are hooked !
They might not even be your usual type !
Why does it happen?

For me it doesn't happen out of the blue. I may recognize that someone is physically attractive, but I don't actually feel attracted to them unless we've reached a certain level of emotional and mental connection.
