This new design allowed the yacht to stand more upright, made the boat more stable.
The design allowed Australia ll to win the America's Cup.
Held for 126 years by the US before Australia took the title from them in 1983.

@Gusman Lexcen joked that if he had his way, they would run over the cup with a steamroller and call it the Americas Plate. A pretty down to earth kind of guy.
