Every generation of people has had to struggle with the problems of their times. There have always been people that have had it easier than others. The same is true of the time we're living in now.
We often tend to romanticize the past, but I've spent the last year watching movies from different eras and regions of the past, and I would much rather be alive in the here and now than back then. There are just a lot more options today than before, and with those options you can learn to overcome or deal with many of your struggles

@Punches True. It's their job to embellish things. But these movies were made for the audiences of their times, so you still get a snapshot of what life was like back then, what things those societies valued, what problems people struggled with.
I don't think it's fair to compare then and now when so much has changed in all that time. Some old problems got fixed, but were replaced with new ones. But if I had a choice, I would much rather just be here where I am, even though it's far from perfect
