What 'unnecessaries' do you accumulate when you visit IKEA?

I sometimes end up not getting the one thing I go for..... but end up spending a fortune 馃お

Last time I visited the item I wanted, a chair, was on display, yet out of stock.

A lot of things were out of stock due to pandemic shortages.

Wouldn't they sell you the display item at discounted price?
My daughter wanted two small bedside tables in oak but they only sold black and white.... but they did sell oak online 馃檮
What a wasted journey!

I do not think I would want the display model, it might have been worn. Besides, I am not sure it would fit in my trunk. The nice thing about the way they box things is it all fits nicely in my trunk!

I found a chair at Office Max. Yet it is still in the box, LOL! I am so lazy, I have not put it together. It has been over a year.

It is a long story. I bought a computer chair from IKEA many years ago. Then the covering bubbled and tore, so I got a new one. I saved the old one as a backup (since if I covered it with towels it was fine). Later, I got a massage cushion which I put on the old one.

Then one armrest on the new one broke in half. A few days later the other armrest broke in half, too! So I swapped the old bubbly chair with the new broken chair, and put towels on the old one. The new one with the broken armrests I now use with my massage cushion. But I cannot recline due to the broken armrests (Each armrest is like a rectangle of plastic, with the upper side broken yet the lower side intact and actually holding the chair together. The back of the chair holds things together, too).

I wanted a replacement, but IKA was out. Then I found a computer chair at Office Max. But I never got around to opening the box and assembling it. I just kept using my first IKEA chair, with towels on it.

I really need to put that other chair together. Then toss out the one with the broken armrests. And use the bubbly one for my massage cushion.

Sorry, I am weird.

No, you just make me laugh 馃き

Maybe now I've reminded you about it (and the history surrounding it) you should treat yourself to the new chair?

@Lacemaker I should hire somebody to come over and put the chair together.

My biggest worry is that I will open up the box and a part will be missing. So I will try to get it and find the manufacturer went out of business!

@JoyfulSilence Nooooo! Everything will be there. I think you should get a handyman to come and fix it for you 馃憤馃徎

I do not think the one in the box is broken. I am just lazy.

The bubby one needs new pads. The leathery covering (not sure if is is real leather) is bad. I suspect the only fix is just to replace them. The metal and plastic parts are fine. The broken one has good pads just bad plastic parts. Those would need replacing. The metal parts are fine, though.

My new one has no pads to bubble.

The first two look like this:

Except the first one has a lot of the black covering of the pads peeled off. Once it bubbled I peeled it off like sunburned skin! The second one is broken in the back rear of the armrests (before I said the top. I was mistaken).

I do not have a photo of the new one since I do not even recall what it looks like and am too lazy to get up now and look at the box.
