ear infections are often caused by something else, generally a problem that reduces airflow in the ear canal. if its caused by wax build-up you might want to see a doctor, if its a secondary symptom of a cold then you could try pooring 3% peroxyde in your ear, or so I have heard. you might want to google exactly how to do that.
