Uk people, when you go see a GP, does it really feel like a "consultation"?

For me it doesn't. OK for an ankle sprain or something sure. But anything more complicated and nebulous, I feel like the GP is reading from a script.

Essentially, GPs are just glorified car mechanics.

Yeah you're selling them way short. The array of issues a GP can cover is pretty extensive and a good one will refer you to a specialist if you need specialized care.

Sorry I'm an American idiot and didn't see the "UK people" part.

@Doomflower After about a decade of getting no help from GPS, after listing my symptoms numerous times I gave up an turned to Dr Google and actually got a diagnosis (and even getting a name for my problem, not a solution, just a name felt like winning the lottery).

Then when I went and told GPS, I got blank stares and stonewalled. This went on for years and in the interim time I was forced to self medicate.

Eventually after fighting tooth and nail, I got to see a neurologist (as in Professor and the authority of a Professor transcends a GP). The neurologist very promptly agreed with my diagnosis.

That was when I found help dealing with my problem.

If my GPs had actually listened and not read from their script, perhaps the would have told me I should go see a neurologist way way way earlier, things would have been way better for me.

@Jm31xxx No i doubt they could screw me over..but they do know i have little faith in them

@LadyJ yeah but they could prescribe something that makes you lose control of yourself in a very public and embarrassing situation and just tell you that theyre just prescribing you antibiotics
