We are a product of both our social and physical abilities and environments.
This has been pretty much proven. Since our society is pretty much monogamous we are more inclined to be monogamous.
The total opposite is true of the Zo'é tribe of Brazil. Since they are a polygamous society and have always been so.
It's also why the Brazilian government has them proscribed against any visitors. Most especially by any religious visitors. They don't want to contaminate that particular society.
I actually agree with them on this.
Religion contaminates societies!!

The same with polyandry.
I think it's just about selfishness.
We're not meant to have one partner. Look how quickly people get bored in relationships. No matter how loveable you are, your partner will need a break from you at some point. If only humans could understand that, they wouldn't be so harsh on infidelity and we would have a lower divorce rate.

@eMortal I think so too
I get the impression we're gradually moving away from that again.

You don’t have to follow traditional relationships anymore

When we became more gatherers than hunters, and began actually cultivating land and settling in one place, wives and children became important labor assets. The males started treating them like property; women wanted the security of being the sole mate of the landowner. And they codified in religious tracts of your choice.

One's enough, usually.

I don't even like sharing my clothes let alone my partner. The though of him having sex with someone else and then coming home to have sex with me makes me want to throw up.
